Services in the Interest of Children’s Prosperity
A new approach to services for children and families with children
The Prosperity Act
In Iceland, a new Act on Integrated Services in the Interest of Children's Prosperity has entered into force.
The child becomes the heart of the system
The new laws ensure that children and their families do not fall in-between systems, and are not sent between service providers within municipalities and government institutions on their own responsibility. You can find out more about the changes here:
All children have the right to receive the services they need, when they need them. Getting the right kind of assistance and knowing where to look for it can be complicated. The Act should ensure that children and parents receive the right assistance, at the right time, from the right entities.
Prosperity: Circumstances which create the conditions for a child to achieve physical, psychological, intellectual, ethical and social development and health on their own terms for the future.
Levels of Services
Services for children are provided at three service levels.
All children have the right to have access to a coordinator of services as needed.
Case Manager
A case manager leads the support team and puts together a support plan.
